Mrs. Carolyn Mitchell Mathews, 85, of Musella, died October 29, 2016, at Pine Shadows Retirement Manor in Sylvester, Georgia.  The funeral services will be held graveside at Roberta City Cemetery on October 31, 2016 at 3 p.m.  The Rev. Joe McDaniel will officiate.

Mrs. Mathews was born on July 4, 1931, to the late Walter W. and Mary Lou Hortman Mitchell.  Mrs. Mathews attended Crawford County Public Schools, Middle Georgia College and the University of Georgia.  Mrs. Mathews graduated from UGA in June of 1952.  She married Ralph Elijah Mathews August 22, 1952, and began teaching in the Crawford County School District teaching third grade and later becoming the librarian for Crawford County High School serving approximately 42 years in the Crawford County School District. 

Mrs. Mathews was a member of Musella Baptist Church attending regularly until her illness.  Mrs. Carolyn Mathews expressed great love for her God, her family and her friends.  She enjoyed decorating the library, gardening, and designing flowers for any event.  Mrs. Mathews loved children and was often the host for many fun events for her son and his relatives.

Survivors include her son, Kevin Mathews (Kay) of Musella, Georgia and a sister, Mrs. Jeanette Mitchell Wingate (Roy) of Callahan, FL.  Mrs. Mathews was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Elijah Mathews on April 21, 1999 and her siblings, Hazel Mitchell Payne, Julia Mitchell Jones, and Walter (Bear) Mitchell, Jr.
