Jacqueline McCrary Andrews, born over 100 years ago, on November 9, 1915 passed away peacefully with family and friends at her bedside.  She was predeceased by parents, H.J. McCrary and Leila McCrary, two sisters, Elise McCrary Nichols, of Atlanta, and Margarite McCrary Persons of Thomaston, and husband Gray Andrews of Roberta.  She is survived by one daughter, Grayce McKinney, Nashville, Tn., 3 first cousins, 3 nieces, and 4 nephews.

Jacqueline was born and raised in Roberta, Ga.  and graduated from Crawford Co. High in 1932 and from GSCW (now Ga. College) in 1936.  She started her teaching career in Bibb County at W.B. Redding School in Lizella, where she happily taught 3^rd grade for over 30 years.

She was a member of the Roberta Baptist Church from the age of 12, and was a member of the choir, director of Vacation Bible School, and continued her passion for teaching by taking Sunday School classes to the patients at Roberta Nursing Home every Sunday with Ollie Mattox for 22 years.  She remained in the town she loved until 2001, when because of health issues, she moved to Nashville, Tn. to be cared for by her daughter.

She was the perfect epitome of Tom Brockow’s “THE GREATEST GENERATION”---always willing to go the extra mile for others, the “under dog” or the mis-understood.  Even during her summer break from teaching, she worked as the bookkeeper at Dickey’s Peach Farm, the Tax Collector’s Office and taught tap-dancing to her school students from Lizella.

Jacqueline is the granddaughter of Hiram David McCrary who owned the land he gave to schools, churches, railroad right-of-way for Ga. Southern Railway Co. and private lots he gave to individuals that collectively became to be known as Roberta.

Funeral Service will be held at 3 pm on June 17, 2016 at Roberta Baptist Church.  Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to service at the church.  Burial will follow at Roberta City Cemetery.
