James Barefoot

November 24, 1941 ~ February 23, 2017 (age 75) 75 Years Old

 

Beloved son, husband and father, James R. Barefoot, 75 passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Thursday, February 23, 2017 after battling cancer.  He was born on November 24, 1941 in Swissvale, Pennsylvania.  He was the son of Larry and Dorothy V. Barefoot. 

James is survived by his wife of 33 years, Dottie Barefoot of Butler, Georgia.  Father of Michelle (Michael) Dorman of Conyers, Georgia, Jeff (Darlene) Barefoot of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Marion (Chuckie) Demeo of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania.  Grandfather of Ryan Dorman, Mikayla Dorman of Conyers, Georgia, Jessie (Zack) Talkington of Munhall, Pennsylvania,  Amanda (Zackhary) Buckley of Summerville, South Carolina, Nicolas Demeo , Gemma Demeo of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania.

James has a sister, June Beauregard and brother, Larry Barefoot both from Florida.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Barefoot and sister, Marion Kane

James was a stepfather to Robert Truan, Reine (Joe) Sherlock and preceded in death by Deanna Eubanks.  Step-grandfather to Thomas and Jason Michael, Walter Hummel and Michael Olsavicky, Jonathan Opsitos.  He was preceded in death by Andrew Opsitos and Heather Andrews.

James served two tours of duty in Vietnam where he earned several medals including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.  Served on Whitaker Pennsylvania Police Department in his rookie years.  Then after moving to Butler, Georgia he served on the Butler Police Department and the Taylor County Sheriff Department.  After retiring he joined the Blue Knights which entails retired and active police officers that share friendship and the love of riding motorcycles.  He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, golfing, fishing, riding horses, camping and singing karaoke.

James was a loving husband, father, brother and friend.  You will always be loved and will be missed dearly.  You are now singing in the heavenly choir. 

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Butler United Methodist Church, Butler Georgia.  Reverend Lance Kindred will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Roberta City Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 1:00 until 3:00 and 5:00 until 7:00 at McLeighton Funeral Home, Butler, Georgia.
