Funeral services for Mary Ayers, 83, of Reynolds, will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Reynolds United Methodist Church.  Burial will follow in Crowell United Methodist Church Cemetery.  Mrs. Ayers passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Navicent Health in Macon.

She was a “Southern Lady” that loved her family, church and community.  She was a member of Reynolds United Methodist Church where she had formerly served as church treasurer and Sunday school teacher.  She served on the Middle Flint Area Planning and Development Commission.  She was heavily involved with the family peach farm.  She had served as President of the Georgia Peach Council and she served on the National Peach Council Board. She was a dedicated member of the Reynolds Woman’s Club as well as the Taylor County Kiwanis Club.  Mrs. Ayers became involved in Reynolds politics in the 60’s when she served two terms on the city council.  She later served two terms as Mayor of the City of Reynolds from January 1996 until December 2003. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Nell Byrd Wainwright and two brothers, Edward Wainwright and Donald Wainwright.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, C.L. “Pete” Ayers; her son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Penny Ayers and their children, Lew and Haley and Jonathan and Christina; her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Nell and Wayne Johnston and their children, Jeremy and Brittany and Laurie and Josh; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Connie McCarthy.

Visitation will be held on Saturday evening from 5 to 7 pm at the McLeighton Funeral Service, 42 South Collins, St. Reynolds, GA

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Alzheimer’s Association, Reynolds United Methodist Church.
