Gordene Blackston DeCarlo, 82, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away March 25, 2018. She was born in Butler, GA to Gordon and Sadie Blackston and was the eldest of eight children. After graduating from Butler High School, she attended college at Piedmont College in Atlanta and then finished her degree at GA Southwestern in Americus with a BSN degree. She was a great RN because of her love and dedication for people. She worked at Ten Broeck Hospital in Jacksonville, FL for 34 years, where she worked as a psychiatric nurse.
She was preceded in death by both her parents, two sisters, Johnsolene B. Poole and Linda B. Stoutz and her eldest son, William Connell.
She is survived by one son, Edwin Connell of Jacksonville, FL; a daughter, Sherrell Dawn Connell of Americus, GA; granddaughter, Heather Connell of Jacksonville, FL; three sisters, Myra Rutland of Greensboro, NC, Jerolene Lavender of Reynolds and Sandra B. Kendrick (Lesley) of Reynolds; two brothers, Robert L. Blackston (Shirley) of Warner Robins and Richard A. Blackson (Bonnie) of Americus; daughter-in-law, Debbie Connell of Jacksonville, FL; numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial will be private.
She will be greatly missed and we will cherish our memories of her forever.
