Roy Callahan

Roy Callahan, 86, passed away May 25, 2017 at Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins.

A native Taylor County Resident, Callahan was born August 3, 1930 to Frank and Jewell Callahan in Rupert, Georgia.   Callahan attended Rupert Schools and graduated from Butler High School in 1947.  Callahan graduated from the University of Georgia in 1953 and then enlisted for 3 years active duty with the Army, Company “O” 37th Armored Infantry Batalion Artillery Division 3rd Armored Division, Fort Knox Kentucky.   

After 3 years of active duty with the Army, Callahan served another 5 years with the Army in the Ready Reserves while also pursuing a law degree.  Callahan graduated with a Juris Doctorate Degree in 1961, from Atlanta Law School.    Callahan also pursued post graduate studies in political science from the University of Georgia, and later studied medicine at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadadalajara, UAG, in Jalisco, Mexico where he obtained a medical degree in the 1970’s.   

Callahan was employed in a variety of consulting jobs utilizing both his law and medical degrees, and traveled extensively throughout his career.   Upon retirement, Callahan moved back to the Callahan family homeplace in Taylor County.   Callahan was featured on numerous legal and medical radio talk shows, and was mentioned in the opening forward credits of Phillip Berg’s latest political book.

Callahan is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Jewell Callahan; brothers, Frank Cochran Callahan, William Morgan Callahan, Dr. Dan Callahan and a sister, Dorris Callahan Howell.

Callahan is survived by his daughter, Delia Dorris Jewell Howell of Atlanta, Georgia, four grandchildren, three nephews, and many cousins.

Burial will be private.
