Funeral services for Charles M. Cook, Sr., 75, of Roberta will be held at 10:00 am Friday, July 3, 2020 at Roberta Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Roberta City Cemetery. Mr. Cook passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at his residence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jetty Reece Cook and Virginia McLean Cook Wright; and one brother, Dale Cook.
He was a 1964 graduate of Lyman Ward Military Academy in Camp Hill, AL. He attended University of Georgia. Later in life, he attended Macon State College and received his associate degree in Insurance and Business and he attended Middle Georgia College and received his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.
He worked with Macon-Bibb County Civil Defense and was active with the Young Republican Party. He served as president of Middle Georgia CB Radio Club. In 1976, he moved to Crawford County and served his community through being a volunteer fireman, EMT, part-time police officer, city councilman, chairman of Roberta Downtown Development.
H e was heavily involved with the Boy Scouts of America and received the Silver Beaver Award in 1985. He was scout master for Cub Scout Troup 264.
In 2007, he received the National Service Award for the Boys and Girls Club of America.
He served as president for two terms with the Roberta-Crawford Chamber of Commerce. He was a board member with the Roberta Housing Authority, chairman of the Crawford County Republican Party, Board member of the Crawford County Planning and Zoning as well as Meals on Wheels of Middle Georgia.
Even though he had many roles in the community his heart was with Roberta Baptist Church where he served as faithful member and as chairman of deacons for several years.
Survivors include his wife, Vera Middleton Cook of Roberta; two sons, Tim Cook (Amanda) of Macon and Chuck Cook of Sharpsburg; two grandchildren, Austin Cook and Olivia Cook; step-mother, Wanda Cook of Kerrville, TX; several nieces and nephews also survive.
