Dick Bryant Obituary

Dick J. Bryant, 93, went to his heavenly home February 17, 2024.  Funeral service will be Wednesday at 3:00pm at Roberta Baptist Church. Entombment will follow at Roberta City Cemetery. Mr. Bryant was a lifelong resident of Georgia, residing in Crawford County until 2019.  He was educated in the Crawford County public school system and later attended the University of Georgia School of Forestry. After leaving UGA, he was employed by Jefferys McElrath Lumber Company and Macon Pulpwood Company, Inc., both in Macon, GA.  He was co-founder and president of B&B Pulpwood Co., Inc., which he operated for 35 years.

He was proud to be an Army Veteran and served as Corporal in the U.S. Army Med Corps during the Korean War.  He was a medic with the 7th Evac. Hospital in Germany.

Dick was very active in his community, including serving on the Crawford County Board of Education and eight years as County Commissioner, representing the Roberta/Knoxville districts.  He was Chairman of the Crawford County Little League during the building of Wallace Field, under the tutelage of Mr. Ernest Wallace, and coached the first Little League baseball team in Crawford County.

As a member of Roberta Baptist Church, he served as deacon, deacon chairman, Sunday School teacher, treasurer, and in many other capacities. Dick was a member of the Blinded Veterans Association, Macon Chapter, and the American Legion Post 230, Roberta, GA.

An avid woodsman and gardener, Dick loved the outdoors and nature.  There was nothing he liked better than cruising a tract of timber for its volume and value or seeking out a centuries-old land line.  He liked working with flowers and enjoyed the beauty they brought to his home and yard.

Dick was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 67 years, Macy Murphey Bryant, his son, Timothy Neal Bryant, Sr., his mother, Gertrude “Kitty” Bryant, and his brother, Calvin C. Bryant.

He is survived by his daughter, Lori Payne (Greg) of Carrollton, GA; five grandchildren, including Shawn Bryant (Veronica) of Senoia, GA, Timothy Bryant, Jr. (Jenna) of Adairsville, GA, Rebecca Powers (Bryn) of Carrollton, GA,  Rachel Bowie (John Mark) of Auburn, AL, and Eli Payne (Meg) of Colbert, GA.  He was proud to be great-grandfather to Yamilex Ramirez, Briana Bryant, Lane Bowie, Rylie Payne, Madison Bowie, Bowen Bryant, Jack Bryant, Jacob Bryant, Ada Jo Bowie, and Harrison Powers. Two great-great-grandchildren, Alilet and Emilio Mares, were also loved by their PaPa.  He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Betty Hannon, Fort Valley, GA; first cousin Mable McKinley, Perry, GA; several cousins; and a host of nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.

After the death of Macy, in 2019, Dick moved to The Stewart House Retirement Living in Carrollton, GA, where he spent his remaining years.  Here he found new friends and a loving community.  He was quite the jokester, and loved telling others that he was the Mayor at The Stewart House.   He was grateful for the caring staff, past and present, whom he loved and considered family.

Dick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.  He blessed the lives of many with his charm, generosity, wisdom, and humor.

Visitation will be from 1:30-2:30 at Roberta Baptist Church.
