Butler, Georgia - Funeral services for Edward Douglas ("Jack") Culverhouse, Sr., 97, of Butler, GA, will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Horeb Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Howard Cemetery. Visitation will be thirty minutes prior to the service at Horeb. Mr. Culverhouse passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at his home.
Mr. Culverhouse was a builder by trade and was known for his meticulous carpentry skills. Often having a two-year waitlist, he built homes for many families in Butler and Thomaston. Mr. Culverhouse also farmed, growing the best tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and “Culverhouse peas” in the area and sending samples home with anyone who visited. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Lee Bryant Culverhouse; his parents, Robert Gerome and Eva Clyde Smith Culverhouse; and his siblings, Flora Culverhouse Brown, Robert (“Jimbo”) Culverhouse, Ethel Culverhouse Chapman, Fred Culverhouse, Clinton Culverhouse, James (“Flem”) Culverhouse, Clarence Culverhouse, Eli Culverhouse, and Clyde Culverhouse Strickland.
Survivors include his son, Dr. Edward Douglas "Doug" Culverhouse, Jr., (Peggy), of Fort Valley, GA; his two granddaughters; Ashlee Culverhouse Cleveland (Tom) of Fort Valley, GA, and Baylee Culverhouse of Atlanta, GA; his brother, Archie Culverhouse of Butler, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
