Florence Jarrell Obituary

Florence O’Neal Jarrell, 98, of Butler passed away at her home on Friday, July 29, 2022 after a brief illness.

Funeral service will be Sunday, July 31,2022 at 3:00 at Antioch Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 3:00 at the church.

Mrs. Jarrell, a life-long resident of Taylor County, grew up in the Crowell Community. She was the youngest child of John and Vivian O’Neal. She graduated from Butler High School and worked for the telephone exchange in Macon, Georgia. She was married to her husband, Blanford Jarrell, for 59 years.

With him, she owned and operated Jarrell Chevrolet in Talbotton from 1949-1981.

Mrs. Jarrell was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church serving in leadership on various committees. Her focus was especially on preserving the beauty of the church and the maintenance and care of the Antioch Cemetery. That interest in the beauty of her environment and her worship of God carried over into her home and yard. She was happiest in her beautifully landscaped and perfectly kept yard early in the morning seeing God’s hand in the beauty that surrounded her.

She maintained an avid interest in the history of Taylor and Talbot Counties and recalled so much of the history through her long life and her relationships with the people of those communities. Mrs. Jarrell was creative in her use of design and color creating beautiful tapestries and painting exquisite china. As her eyesight became impaired and she could no longer create, she became a collector and displayed art that captivated her interest.

She was predeceased by her husband, Blanford Jarrell, her four brothers and their wives, Walter (Katie) O’Neal, James O’Neal, Herman O’Neal, and William (Ruth) O’Neal. She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Jean Davis, Sue (Bill) Pope, Hugh O’Neal, Ron (Rose) O’Neal, Marc (Lauren) O’Neal, Sue Callier, Margie Ormand, Billy (Linda) Blasche, Claire (James) Guined, Chet Brantley and several great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, or to a charity of your choice.
