Graveside services for James Ledford “Buddy” Dunn, 83, of Butler will be held 11:00 Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at Butler Memorial Cemetery.
Buddy passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2020, at Upson Regional Medical Center.
He was a 1954 graduate of Taylor County High School and attended Georgia Southwestern College. He was retired from Robins Air Force Base after 30 plus years of service.
His love for Taylor County and this community led him to direct and coordinate the Countryside Festival for decades. His passion for the county and preservation of Taylor County history prompted him to serve as Chairman of the Butler Cemetery Fund for years.
He wrote community and human-interest articles for the Butler Herald and the Taylor County News. He enjoyed gardening, the beach, dancing, and decorating, particularly at Christmas. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Butler and was nicknamed “Deacon” when he was in charge of Sunday School and youth activities. He was a gentle and kind Christian who loved the Lord.
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Henry Dunn, Sr. and Adele Ledford Dunn; one brother, Earl Henry “Sonny” Dunn, Jr.; two sisters, Shirley Dunn Neugebauer and Kay Dunn Scott.
Survivors include one sister, Phyllis Smith Heath (Harold) of Butler; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews also survive.
