Funeral services for John H. Andrews, 75, of Roberta will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Faith Tabernacle, 416 Main Street, Byron, GA. The family will be receiving friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, Ft. Valley, GA. John passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Pine Pointe Hospice. He attended Evening Light Mission.
He was born January 19, 1948, in Macon, Georgia to the late Bennett William Andrews, Sr. and Eunice Land Andrews and grew up in Roberta, GA. He was a 1966 graduate of Crawford County High School. He attended Georgia College in Milledgeville, Georgia where he received Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 – 1972 in Vietnam and the Air Force Reserve for several years. He served in the Gulf War as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army, where he retired as a Major in 1994.
After retiring from the military, he began working at Macon Housing Authority where he retired in 2014 after 16 years of service. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and loved grilling.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Bennett W. Andrews, Jr; and a sister, Meredith A. Nicholson.
Survivors include his wife, Ann C. Andrews; one son, John Stephen Andrews (Jennifer); two daughters, Kimberly Greer (Shane) and Laura Smith (Eric) all of Crawford County; sixteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
