Funeral services for John “Mark” Harris, 76, will be held on Tuesday, April 1, at 11 AM at Lebanon Baptist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service hour. Burial will follow at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Mark passed away on Saturday, March 29, at Piedmont Macon Medical Center.

Mark was a lifelong member of Lebanon Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. Mark spent his whole life in Taylor County. He farmed on the Butler Level for many years, and served as a teacher in the Taylor County School System for 24 years, teaching history, political science, and serving as Gifted Program Coordinator. After his retirement, he and his wife Bunny moved to her homeplace in the Crowell Community, where Mark grew an extensive garden and raised livestock, including cows, pigs, goats, and donkeys. He also worked part-time for several years after his retirement as a gun salesman at Money Mizer Pawn and Jewelry in Macon, Georgia. Mark loved spending time in his garden, taking his granddaughter Sarah Grace for rides around the farm, entertaining his friends with humorous posts on Facebook, and being with his wife, Bunny, daughter, Katie, and son-in-law, Ryan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emory and Johnnie Granger Harris, as well as a brother, Sandy Harris.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Bunny Harris of Butler; one daughter, Katie Dodrill (Ryan) of Shellman, GA;  one granddaughter, Sarah Grace Dodrill;  one brother, Dan Harris of Butler; sister-in-law, Jeri Harris of Butler; several nieces and nephews as well as several great-nieces and nephews also survive.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lebanon Baptist Church.
