Mary Jo (Albritton) Jones Obituary

Funeral services for Mary Jo Jones, 82, of Butler will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Faith Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in Bethel Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. Mary Jo passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023.   Mary Jo was born in Taylor County and was the daughter of the late Lillie and A.V. Albritton.  As a long-standing member of Faith Baptist Church, she loved hearing the gospel both in preaching and singing.  Mary Jo worked at Manhattan Shirt Factory until her family convinced her to stay home and babysit the grandchildren.  Thus, began her legacy, over the years Mary Jo babysat a lot of children in Taylor County and while known for not putting up with any mess she was loved by all and they all considered her as part of their family. The nickname of “GangGonna” was given to her by the oldest granddaughter and was eventually shortened to “Gonna”.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Mrs. Jean Carpenter and her family for all their love and support which allowed Mary Jo to stay in her home as long as she did.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Jones and daughter, Debbie Childree and her brother Pete Albritton; son in law, Terry Childree.

Survivors include one son, Ronnie Jones (Tammy) of Butler; two brothers, Sidney Albritton (Clydefaye) of Butler and Bert Albritton of West Virginia; grandchildren, David Jones (Jamie) of Butler, Shawn Jones (Selena) of Alabama, Ryan Peck of Illinois, Becky McInvale (Wayne) of Reynolds and Blair Perkovich (Bryan) of Warner Robins; ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be held on Saturday evening from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
