Nancy"Nan" (Wilson) Thompson Obituary

Nancy “Nan” Wilson Thompson entered into heaven on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.  Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11:00 am at Wesley United Methodist Church Cemetery, Butler, GA.


Nan was born along with her twin sister, Jan on July 16, 1941, in Columbus, GA.


She graduated from A.L. Miller High School in 1959 and went on to attend Mercer University in Macon graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in1963.  Nan began her professional career in South Carolina becoming a social worker, later obtaining the rank of licensed master social worker.  Upon her retirement, the State of South Carolina recognized her for 41 years of faithful service to public education.


Nan enjoyed traveling and gardening, and was a wonderful decorator, she loved to go shopping throughout the year to buy items to decorate her home for the holidays. She had a kind heart while working with underprivileged children and was a source of strength when her nephew James faced serious health issues. 


Nan was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Elizabeth Gray Wilson, her husband, Charles de Boifeuillet Thompson, III, daughter, Chesley Elizabeth Thompson Gleason of Hilton Head, SC; sister, Jan Wilson Davis; and nephew Derek Charles Davis.


Survivors include her brother-in-law, MG (Ret) Don Davis of Byron; nephew, James Davis (Susan) of Bolingbroke; son-in-law, David Gleason and extended family.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund or to the Taylor County Historical Society.
