Orlando Garcia Balcos, MD, 85, passed away on February 22, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. Orlando was born on September 27, 1938, and was preceded in death by his parents, Benigno Balcos Sr. and Maria Cristina Garcia Balcos, and his beloved wife, Elvira Lucas Balcos. Survivors include two sons, Orlando Balcos Il of Chamblee, GA and Jonathan Balcos (Celina) of Stockbridge, GA; one daughter, Joyce Balcos Butler (Amy) of Athens; three sisters in the Philippines, Gloria Balcos, Teresita Guanio and Candelaria; three grandchildren, Brittney Nicole Butler, Jordan Ariana Butler and Cole Matias Balcos; one sister-in-law, Flora Lucas of Roberta who took amazing care of Orlando and his family.
He enjoyed his cars, good food, and being surrounded by all his people. During his lifetime, Orlando served the Roberta community as the sole healthcare provider for 40+ years. His practice site remains a historic building to this day, and he is beloved by his patients and everyone whose lives he touched. Dr. Balcos attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Macon. He was a medical doctor in Roberta from 1972 to 2015, and was president of the Philippine-American Medical Association of Georgia. Orlando also served as a medical director at the Roberta Nursing Home, Reidsville Nursing Home, Johnson County Nursing Home, and the Dooley Prison.
Orlando’s celebration of life will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2025, at the Crawford County Conference Center at 12:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the Crawford County Conference Center for viewing before the service from 10:30 to 12:00. Interment will follow the service at the Roberta City Cemetery, with lunch to follow at the Conference Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, donate.cancer.org.
