Ralph Aldridge Brannin, 72, of Butler, Georgia, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Gail Pinkston Brannin; his three daughters: Anna (David) of Columbia, SC, Addie of Raleigh, NC and her three daughters Grace, Charlotte, and Louise, and Dailey (Caitlin) of Franklin, MA; his bonus children Wendy (Chris) of Macon, GA, and Jay of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; his sister Pat of Columbus, GA, brother Billy of Butler, GA, and sister Claire (Robert) of Niceville, FL; and countless other cherished family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his father Clarence Vaness Brannin and his mother Virginia Claire Adams Brannin. 

Remembered as a happy-go-lucky Georgia boy to his core, Ralph spent much of his childhood in various parts of the Peach State, including Perry, Howard, and Butler. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years and worked at golf courses across the state, ultimately working as a pro and superintendent. During that time, he attended PGA school, where he passed the playing test on his first try. His favorite parts of being in the golf world were the connections he made with people and being out in nature on the green. 

He later shifted to a career in sales, first at Coastal Equipment Systems in Tampa, FL then at Beard Equipment Company in Mobile, AL as sales manager of the golf division. At Beard he was instrumental in establishing John Deere Golf & Turf’s presence in the southeast. The passion and dedication he applied to his career led to lifelong friendships and recognition including the Sales Manager of the Year for North America… twice. As part of his work, he and his sidekick Gail were privileged to travel to golf courses around the world, including Fairmont Banff Springs, Gleneagles, and Greenbrier. 

Later in life, Ralph returned to Georgia, settling down in Butler where he spent some of the happiest years of his life. There, he and Gail maintained an open door policy, hosting a steady flow of friends and family, and hosting long lively meals and overnight stays in their converted school bus guest house. Lowcountry boils and oyster roasts were his specialty. He loved visits from his five children and his three grandchildren, who just adored their Poppy. Many of Ralph’s days were spent out back in his “happy place,” listening to music, watching the birds, tinkering in his workshop, and generally puttering around the yard. He loved tending a good fire. He and his brother Billy, AKA Bubba, spent many a day “ridin” around Taylor County. 

From day one until the end, Ralph was the epitome of a people person and someone who always rooted for the underdog. He tipped generously, learned the name of everyone he met, and sent personalized voice recordings from his homegrown radio show, taped “on the square.” Ralph had a big heart, and he wasn’t afraid to show it. Above all, he loved making people feel special. Honey, he was the big door prize. 

Ralph’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of St. Francis - Emory Healthcare, especially the ICU nurses and respiratory therapists. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the nonprofit organization Birds Georgia. 

The family will memorialize him privately.
