Rentz Edward McCants, a beloved family member, passed away unexpectedly on June 7, 2026. Born on March 6, 1945, in Conroe, Texas, he was the son of Horace and Edna Merle McCants. Rentz graduated from Taylor County High School in 1964. Following his graduation, he dedicated his time to serving in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1972. After he returned to Butler, Georgia, and married his high school sweetheart, Janet Turk McCants in 1978. He retired from Weyerhaeuser, formerly known as Procter & Gamble. Following his retirement, Rentz enjoyed spending time at his coastal home in Darien, Georgia, and loved to go fishing. He had a passion for working on old cars and attended many car shows. He had an eye for creativity and unique carpentry. He is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Janet Turk McCants; his parents, Horace Thomas McCants Sr. and Edna Merle McCants; and his in-laws, John M. Turk and Alma Ruth Turk. Rentz is survived by his children, Renee Gray (Chris), John Turk McCants (Jennifer), and Melissa McCants Shehee (Matt); His grandchildren, Braxton, Emmie Ruth, Mitchell, Christine, Eban, Jarrett, Luke, Allie, and Fisher; His great grandchildren Grayson and Adelina; His cousin Brenda Hendlmyer (Jack).
Graveside services will be held on Friday at 3:00 pm at Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 until 2 pm at the funeral home.
