Roger Clark Obituary
Charles “Roger” Clark, 81, of Butler, Georgia, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Columbus Hospice.
Roger was born on September 8, 1944, in Butler, Georgia, to the late Clinton Claude Clark and Lucy Parks Clark. He married the love of his life, Sue Peed Clark, on September 11, 1965, and they shared 61 wonderful years together.
He was a devoted member of Bethel Congregational Methodist Church. He was co-owner of Clark Brothers Timber Company, where he worked alongside his father and brother. Later, he worked 23 years with family at Peed Bros. Construction Company. In the late 1970s, he spent several years as Peed Bros.’ sponsored tractor driver, competing in numerous tractor pulls across the state of Georgia.
To add to his many accomplishments, Roger dedicated 37 years of service to his community as a volunteer firefighter with the Butler Fire Department. He retired in April of 2002 as Assistant Chief.
Roger was an avid fisherman and hunter who found great joy outdoors. He especially enjoyed spending time on his family’s property in north Taylor County, where he loved tinkering on equipment, tending his garden, cutting the grass, and taking pride in keeping his land beautiful.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to many. A big man with a big heart and a quiet demeanor, Roger was truly a gentle giant. To the world, he might have seemed reserved. But to his daughters, he was everything—protector, teacher, safe place, and the kind of man who proved that strength doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Clark.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sue Peed Clark of Butler; three daughters, Cheree Fricks (Walker) of Butler, Wendi Clark (Dawn McBride) of Smiths Station, Alabama, and Jennifer Butler (Marcus) of Acworth, Georgia; one brother, Ronny Clark (Lois) of Butler; one sister, Elaine Peed (Bobby) of Butler; two grandchildren, Creed Butler and Ethan Butler; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
