Funeral services for Sam Jerry Peterman, 88, of Butler, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at The Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in The Church Cemetery.

Mr. Peterman passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026.

A founding member of The Church, Mr. Peterman lived a life marked by faith, hard work, and devotion to his family and community. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was honored to receive his 50-year Masonic pin from Fickling Lodge #129. A dedicated businessman, he owned and operated S.J. Peterman Trucking for more than 50 years. Mr. Peterman spent a lifetime chasing his dream of being a farmer, a passion that reflected his strong work ethic, perseverance, and love for the land. 

Mr. Peterman was preceded in death by his parents, L.E. Peterman, Jr., and Roma Louise Locke Peterman; two brothers, Clifford Peterman and Ronnie Peterman; and his beloved wife of 59 years, Mildred Hammock Peterman.

He is survived by his son, Wayne Peterman (Bunny) of Butler, and their children, Tyler Holmes (Delana), Joshua Peterman (Micah), Ricky Hales (Felicia) and family, Michelle Bustamante (Brian) and family, and Liza Nunez (Jesse) and family; his daughter, Marsha McCants of Butler, and her children, Melody Maddox (Keith) and their son, Aiden, and Jed Davis (Kelley) and their children, Reed and Emiley; his siblings, Elizabeth Peterman, Nadine Lambert, Francis Smart, and Charles Peterman; along with numerous extended family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Church Building Fund, 592 Thomaston Highway, Butler, Georgia 31006.

Instead of wearing the traditional color black, the family would like everyone to wear blue to honor Mr. Peterman.
